Peda is a sweet from the Indian subcontinent, usually prepared in thick, semi-soft pieces. The main ingredients are khoa, sugar and traditional flavorings, including cardamom seeds, pistachio nuts and saffron. The colour varies from a creamy white to a caramel colour. The word peda is also generically used to mean a blob of any doughy substance, such as flour or khoa. Variant spellings and names for the dessert include pedha, penda and pera.
Pedas originated in the city of Mathura in present-day Uttar Pradesh.[ The Mathura Peda is the characteristic variety from the city. From Uttar Pradesh, the peda spread to many parts of the Indian subcontinent.
As with laddoos, pedas are sometimes used as prasadam in religious services.
Ingredients:
Milk powder 1 cup
Condensed milk (sweetened) 200 ml
Butter 50 gm
Saffron
Hot milk 3-4 spn
Method: First mix the saffron into the hot milk and set aside.Now in a pan add the butter and let it melt in low flame.Once the butter has melt then add the milk powder and stir continuously for few minutes.When milk and butter nicely mixed well then add the condensed milk and again mix them well.Once everything mixed up perfectly and become a nice dough then take out from the pan and let it cool down.When its warm then make the small pedas using your both pumps.
