Pointers for Travellers on a Budget

Do you love to travel but don’t have enough money to do so as much as you’d like? Are you always on the look out for cheap holidays and take advantage of whatever deals come your way? Have you ever sold a prized possession just to have enough money to share in an experience? If this sounds familiar to you, you’re probably a budget traveller.

There’s nothing wrong with looking for the deals, in fact it’s one of the smartest ways to experience the world without going into massive amounts of debt. Travelling can be expensive but if you plan it out ahead of time, know where to look and aren’t afraid to get a bit creative, you can do as much as people who pay twice as much.

Here are some pointers for ways to do some serious travelling while sticking to your budget at the same time!

Sadly, avoid these if you want to save money!

Watch for Flight Deals

There are always deals happening for flights but you have to know where to look and be prepared to snatch it up when you see it. If you wait too long, someone else will get it and you’ll be left out – get it too soon and you’ll likely miss out on saving some money. Know about how much something normally costs and shop around to the different sites to see who has the best offer!

Eat Light

Some people travel to experience the food side of the world but this can be done on a budget too without sacrificing taste or ambience. No meal should be skipped, particularly if you’re going to be walking around a lot, but avoid the little extras like wine with dinner or authentic delicacies of sit down restaurants. Grabbing a sandwich on the fly is always a great idea!

Passes, Free Days and More

There are a whole host of options available to travellers out there looking to get a bit of culture without spending a ton, but again, it helps to plan ahead. Most of these deals aren’t time sensitive but they may require you to book something ahead of time or figure out if it’s really worth it. Generally, passes are only valuable if you’re planning already to do all the things they include, otherwise look for the free entry days if there are any that pop up at certain times of the month.

Avoid Souvenirs

Mementos are nice but some are completely unnecessary and only serve to clutter your home and weigh down your bag. Instead of getting something everywhere you go, why not get one thing that has special meaning to you – your budget will thank you!
