Lake Louise, even over Sunshine Village, is the largest ski range and also is one of the largest in North America. The mountain includes more than 105 rubs, 11 lifts, and an all terrain park and several lodges along the runs featuring great restaurants and snack bars. Visitors to Lake Louise praise both its great skiing and the fact that there is very little obstructions to just seeing the surrounding natural beauty. Approximately 59 kilometers north of Banff town the Lake Louse is open all week from 9 am to 4 p.m.
Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies
Named after its founders and patrons Peter and Catharine Whyte the Whyte museum exists to portraying art and culture in the Canadian Rockies. Inside the museums visitors are treated to liberal doses of art, history and folklore. There are many paintings that depict different landscapes as the Whyte’s love landscape painting. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and costs $8 dollars for adults.
Columbia Ice Fields
The Columbia Ice Fields is the largest sub-polar glacier in North America. Covering a massive area of 130 square mils on the southern tip of Banff National Park the glaciers are a fair drive from the town of Banff, but the splendid scenery on route will make it worth the trip. Also at the ice fields there are a huge variety of hiking trails and scenic perches. There are tour buses that leave from Banff or you can drive there yourself along Route 93. Admission is around $50 Canadian for adults – a fee some feel is quite high – but there also are often times when the fee is reduced if you check with the Banff tourist office.
Banff National Museum
Visiting the Banff National Museum is another way to connect with the fantastic nature inside of Banff National Park. The museums holds more than 1,300 vegetable, animal and mineral specimens collected in the late 19th and 20th century. A historic site in of itself the museum is a tribute to Banff’s natural surrounding as well as older techniques for museum preservation. Hours vary at the museum and admission is around $4 dollars.
