Pan Fried Cabbage Side Dish Recipe ~ Noreen's Kitchen

Greetings! Tonight Molly asked if we could have ham and pierogies for dinner. We have this meal about twice a year. We also love to have pan fried cabbage along with it the way my nanny and my mom used to make it. I have shared how to do this in another video a few years back with the entire meal prepared. In an effort to have more videos with vegetable preparation, I thought I would just go ahead and do this all by itself. That and the fact the my video quality is much better now so this one is a redo, but a much needed one.

Fried cabbage is awesome and simple and makes a number of meals just right. This one hits all the right flavor notes. Sweet, salty, tart and tangy from the apples, butter and onions. The cabbage is the perfect carrier for all that flavor. I toss in some celery seed, but you don’t have too, we love it so you do what you like.

You can use any type of cabbage you prefer, but each one will render a different amount of liquid and take different times to cook down. I have used a Nappa cabbage, and while it is not my first choice, that being a Savoy or curly cabbage, I will often do this with just a green cabbage as well.
