Mah Ki Dal | Kaali Dal | Punjabi Main Course Recipe | The Bombay Chef – Varun Inamdar

Let us learn to make the traditional recipe Mah Ki Dal originating from Punjab.

Mah Ki Dal is also known as Kaali Dal served with steamed Rice, Roti or Naan as the main course. It is made up from mix of whole Black Grams and Kidney Beans. Enjoy this Dhaba style Punjabi main course recipe by Chef Varun Inamdar only on Rajshri Food.

Ingredients

1 cup whole black lentils (soaked overnight)
50 gms red kidney beans (soaked overnight)
1/2 cup onions, chopped
1 cup fresh tomato crush
1 tbsp ginger garlic
1 green chili
1 tsp freshly roasted coriander crushed
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp red chili powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
2 tbsp ghee
2 tbsp refined oil
2 cups water + more to adjust desired consistency
salt as required

Method
– Soak the Kidney beans and Black lentils in water for 4 to 5 hours or overnight.
– Pressure cook the saoked Kidney beans and Black lentils for 12 to 20 visels and mash it.
– Heat a pan, add ghee and add some oil, once it gets hot add cumin seeds, Ginger & Garlic paste and cook until it gets golden in color.
– Add chopped onions, Chillies and allow it to cook till it gets translucent
– Add Tomatoes, Red Chilly powder, Turmeric powder, Salt to taste, Garam Masala powder and mix it well.
– Add the cooked and mashed dal into the pan and cook it.

The delicious and traditional Punjabi Mah Ki Dal is ready to serve with steamed rice, Roti or Naan.
