Saving Money On Your Post-Holiday Trip

Happy-New-Year

The holiday season is quickly approaching. In between all of those festive traditions and the craziness at the mall, you are probably thinking: I wish I could get away from everything! Don’t worry – this it totally normal. In fact, many of us plan trips to exotic and far off places once the New Year rolls around. When you want to travel more…. but spend less…. the key is to think ahead and make the most of every dollar. Not sure how to go about it? These tips will help you save money on your post-holiday trip.

Focus On Your Airfare First

The worst possible thing you could do? Wait too long to book your airline tickets. Think of it this way: the winter months are the most popular months of the year to travel. Many people are trying to make it home for Christmas – or return after an extended visit with family. In fact, there are an estimated 23% more long-distance travellers at this time of year. That makes it especially important for you to start with your airfare.

Once you have figured out where you want to go, the next step is to look online for ticket options. Booking a flight in advance to get a cheap deal is the easiest way to save money. That’s not the only benefit. Booking early also ensures that the flight you want won’t be booked by the time your vacation rolls around.

Wait a Little Longer To Book Your Hotel

Booking your flight in advance is a must…. but what about your hotel? This is one area that you can actually wait a little while longer. Flights tend to fill up quickly from November to February. Not the hotels, though!

Despite the fact that many of us opt to vacation in the New Year, people often stay with friends and family members. That means hotels don’t tend to book up as quickly. So, wait until the month before your trip to book – or even a few weeks if you are feeling adventurous. Hotels tend to slash their prices to fill rooms and bring in more travellers.

Always Remember To Pack Smart

The last way to save money on your post-holiday season trip is to pack smart. The easiest way to overspend on a trip? Over packing your suitcase. More and more airlines are cracking down on weighty suitcases and oversized carry on luggage.

In the case of carry on luggage, you could be forced to check it. That can cost you an extra baggage fee. Not the best way to start out your vacation! The best solution is to only pack what you need. That can save you a headache at the airport…. and a lot of money as well.

Is your New Years resolution to travel more? Then do it! This year, stop dreaming about getting away from it all. Make plans and actually make it happen. To save money, don’t wait! Now is the perfect time to start thinking about your next vacation.
